How to improve WiFi speed at home

Small changes to router placement and daily habits can make WiFi more stable.

Start with router placement

Place the router in an open, central position instead of hiding it inside a cabinet or behind thick walls.

Keep it away from metal objects, large appliances, and crowded power strips because these can weaken the signal.

Reduce interference

If your router supports both bands, use 5 GHz for nearby devices and 2.4 GHz for rooms farther away.

Restart the router occasionally and update its firmware when your provider or router brand recommends it.

Check your devices

Older phones, laptops, or background downloads can slow the connection for everyone.

Run a speed test on more than one device to see whether the issue is the internet line or a single device.
